Year-round schooling, summer programs, and online learning from a mental health perspective

Research demonstrates that summer programs and summer school are effective at improving the academic and behavioural outcomes and skills of students. The literature primarily focusses on the impact of summer programming (or lack thereof) for academic and behavioral outcomes, and identifies key populations who are at risk for academic loss or dropout over the summer break. This report reviews the evidence on year-round schooling, summer programs, and online education for at-risk youth with mental health and behavioural challenges.
