Assessing data capacity
Through Moving on Mental Health (MOMH), lead agencies are responsible for system planning, performance reporting and measurement, and effective performance management in their service area. The capacity of the lead agency to use data is critical in these functions. Core service agencies also need to have sufficient organizational capacity to collect and report data, and to improve their services.
Data capacity refers to the capacity of agencies to have reliable, accurate and timely information for effective decision-making. For example, data capacity is needed to support the planning of services, to monitor and improve programs and services delivered, and to assess the effectiveness of programs and services.
This report presents a summary of the literature and a framework for assessing data capacity. The report summarizes results on the areas of strengths and needs on data capacity, and priority areas for improvement from 29 lead agencies across 31 service areas.
