Tell your story
Research evidence is a strong basis for clinical decision-making. However, anecdotal evidence can also provide valuable information. Storytelling – relaying information in a compelling way – enhances evidence-informed practice.
Stories are where we find meaning. They personalize, illustrate and “market” evidence by presenting it in ways that resonate with others. In relating on a personal level, the listener or reader can identify with the message and glean information useful to them – information that can make a critical difference in the provision of care.
Evidence-informed practice encourages clinicians to make decisions by pairing research findings with "lessons learned" through personal experience. Storytelling supports that approach.
